Working with schools, community-based organizations, and faith-based institutions, the Center for Self-Sufficiency, Inc. is leading a major initiative to offer Community-Based Abstinence Education programming in Wisconsin, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Federal and state government agencies as well as private-sector partners have made funds available for the Center for Self-Sufficiency, Inc. to provide research-based abstinence education. The abstinence education being offered is designed to assist youth in developing:
- Refusal Techniques
- Positive Decision-Making
- Character-Building
- Financial Literacy
- Interpersonal Communications
This comprehensive range of skills strengthens teenagers’ abilities to remain abstinent, or return to abstinence. To facilitate effective learning, the organization provides educational services through:
- Abstinence Education Classes
- Youth & Family Events
- Parent Sessions
- Community Presentations
- End-of-Year Celebrations
- Abstinence Rallies
To receive Community-Based Abstinence Education services, individuals must meet at least one of the following categories:
- Be a youth enrolled in middle school or high school
- Be a parent, or guardian, of a youth enrolled in the program
